‘Friends’ star Matthew Perry was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on Saturday, law enforcement sources said.
He was 54 years old.
Officers responded around 4 p.m. At his home, where he was found unconscious. The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, did not provide a cause of death. Sources said that no drugs were found at the scene. Additionally, according to law enforcement sources, no foul play is suspected. A representative for Perry did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for comment.
Los Angeles Police Department robbery-homicide detectives are investigating the death. The cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office at a later date.

Born on August 19, 1969, in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Perry published his book ‘Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir’ in 2022. In his memoir, he talked about his struggle with addictions. He wrote, “‘Friends’ was huge. I couldn’t risk it. I liked the script very much. I loved my co-actors. I liked the scripts very much. I loved everything about the show but I was struggling with my addictions which added to my embarrassment.” “I had a secret that no one could know.”
“I felt like I would die if the live audience didn’t laugh, and that’s definitely not healthy. But sometimes I can say a line and the audience doesn’t laugh and I sweat and sometimes even cramp,” Perry wrote. “I would go crazy if I didn’t get the laugh I wanted. I felt like this every single night. This pressure put me in a bad situation. I also knew of the six people who made that show, only one of them was sick.”
In her memoir, she also recalled that Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green, confronted her about getting drunk while shooting the series. “I know you’ve been drinking,” she remembered him once saying to her. “We can smell it,” she said, in what Perry called “a kind of weird but loving way, and the plural ‘we’ hit me like a sledgehammer.”
